Exhibition Opportunities at Light Street Gallery

The Gallery

Light Street Gallery, located in the Federal Hill area of Baltimore at 1448 Light Street, is available for monthly rental by artists, art dealers and independent curators for the purpose of exhibiting artwork. An artist, group of artists, art dealer or curator may rent the First Floor OR both the First and Second Floors of Light Street Gallery for any month of the year, beginning in May of 2009. Light Street Gallery opened in 2004 and is today an established retail fine art gallery. The Gallery is a clean, attractive and professional space for the exhibition of artwork. Gallery rentals include the use of the front bay window, the hanging system, which is installed on all of the major walls, a desk/counter area, a telephone, a printer/copier, a full sized refrigerator, a small wine rack/server and several pedestals, tables and counters for the display of three dimensional artwork and/or food service.

The Artists

Rentals are open to artists, crafts persons, art dealers, and curators from anywhere in the United States and do not need to be from the Baltimore area. It is not necessary that Artwork exhibited be For Sale. Installation artists are welcome to apply for the exhibition space. When Artwork is For Sale, Light Street Gallery does not take any commission on artwork that is sold during the rental period.

The Artists share in the operating costs of the Gallery during the period in which their artwork is on exhibit (their Show). Artists are responsible for hanging their Shows and for running the Gallery, or arranging for someone to run it for them, during gallery hours for the duration of their Show. Gallery hours are typically Wednesday through Saturday, Noon to 6:00 P.M.; Artists can reduce or extend these hours if they so choose.

The Costs

The Gallery Leasing Fee for one month is $950 for the First Floor and $1,650 for both the First and Second Floors. Each floor is approximately 600 square feet, exclusive of hallways and the stairwell, all of which can be used to exhibit artwork. The First Floor is one room with a front bay window, a back hallway, a work area and a bathroom. The Second Floor contains a hallway and two rooms, each approximately 300 square feet. Rental fees cover the gallery expenses of rent, utilities (up to $200 for the First Floor and up to $250 for the First and Second Floors), the security system, the website, and the telephone. Artists and Renters are responsible for the following costs:

  1. Designing, printing and mailing their own invitations;
  2. Preparing and mailing publicity packets and advertising for the exhibit, if desired;
  3. Providing insurance, if desired, for the artwork during the exhibition;
  4. Providing refreshments for the opening reception, and the set up and clean up for same;
  5. Furnishing digital photos and text for the Light Street Gallery website (www.LightStreetGallery.com), newspaper announcements, and the press release;
  6. Hanging their artwork and installing their sculpture;
  7. Preparing a Price and/or Information Sheet for artwork exhibited;
  8. Running the Gallery during selected gallery hours throughout the “Show”;
  9. Removing the Artwork at the conclusion of the lease term and leaving the gallery in the same condition as when the artwork was installed; and
  10. The cost of any overage of above amounts for utilities (gas and electricity from Baltimore Gas and Electric) during the rental month.

To Apply

All artwork must be approved by the Gallery Director. Upon approval, Artists will be sent a Letter of Agreement to be signed by the Artist/Renter and returned to the Gallery Director with the rental deposit. All applications are first come, first served and space is reserved upon the signing of the Rental Agreement and payment of fifty per cent (50%) of the rental fee. The balance of the rental fee is due one week prior to the installation of the exhibit. To apply, please provide the following information (which can be emailed to Linda@lightstreetgallery.com or mailed to Light Street Gallery, c/o 11 Pasture Brook Court, Rockville, Maryland 20854):

  1. Names of Artists/Renters, Addresses, Phone Numbers, Fax Numbers, Web Sites and Email Addresses.
  2. Calendar month and Year Renter would like for the rental term; First, Second, and Third Choices of Month and Year for Exhibit (if flexible).
  3. General description of the Artwork to be exhibited and résumés of the Artists.
  4. Digital images of representative artwork to be included in your Show (3-10 images) along with the dimensions, the medium and the title of each image.
